Douglas Maud was founded by husband and wife team, brought together by a shared love for design, craftsmanship, and creating spaces that feel like home in every sense of the word.

Building is in our blood. Both of our fathers are builders, so we quite literally grew up on job sites, around plans, and inside half-built homes. For over a decade, our founder has worked in the building industry, developing a deep respect for quality construction, honest workmanship, and doing things properly the first time.

Alongside this, I completed my Interior Design certification during my final year of high school and have been designing ever since. What began with creating inspiring classrooms and collaborating with teachers to bring their ideas to life evolved into a career spanning interior design, website and marketing design, and product development — all driven by a passion for turning ideas into beautifully executed realities.

But Douglas Maud truly began with our own home.

When we were first married, we decided to build and, in an effort to keep things professional, chose a completely independent building company rather than working with family. The experience was disappointing. Communication was lacking, creativity felt limited, and our home began to feel like it was becoming a “stock standard” version of something, rather than a reflection of who we were.

So we made a bold decision.

We pulled the plug, took the project into our own hands, and built our home ourselves. That process changed everything. It showed us a significant gap in the industry — a need for a building company that genuinely listens, collaborates, and treats every project as personal.

Douglas Maud was born from that moment.

Today, we offer a truly bespoke building experience where clients can sit down with both a qualified builder and an interior designer, working together to shape a home or space that is uniquely theirs. No templates. No boxed solutions. Just thoughtful design, honest advice, and beautifully built results.
